      Problem: Pioneer A04+Nero+Instant cd/DVD

      i'm unable to use both nero 5.5.9.17 nor Istand cd/DVD 6.5 to burn DVD media(CD are ok), while i'm able to burn using PrassiPrimoDVD 2.0

      i've tested with many fw config (1.31/1.33/1.31 patched 1.33 patched) always with the some error. it seems like the app can't access the burner, infact they gimme the error befor attempting any writing procedure and terefore leavin the dvd untouched.
      It's not a media problem because i've tryed pionner media aswell and they don't work too.

      quoted from Istant DVD error log:

      An error occured while writing track 1 at position 0.

      Extended information:

      -----------------------------------------------------

      Nero gives a similar erro msg.

      P.S.
      i don't know if this can be important, but as sooon as i received the burner i updated it to v1.33 (RPC-1 + 2x for all) found @
      hxxp://firmwares.co.uk
      and after the first attempts i downgraded it to 1.30 official;
      no success;
      now it's with 1.33 official and ... u know what.

      I don't use Instant CD/DVD so I won't have a clue about the error messages but I have had problems with NERO with the Pioneer DVR 104 and firmware versions above 1.20

      On my system at least, Nero is not able to burn a DVD using Ultra DMA and needs to be set PIO mode otherwise I get a Communication Failure error message.

      As you have mentioned PrassiPrimoDVD 2.0 works okay I expect you are suffering the same problem that I was.
      (I could burn okay with RecordNow MAX, also made by Veritas.)

      If this is the case I suggest that you downgrade your firmware to 1.20 (2x 4 All + RCP1 ) or change your IDE channel from DMA to PIO (via device manager, Primary or Secondary IDE channel>Properties)

      For downgrading your Firmware look here.

      I don't know about Instant CD/DVD but I've managed to get Nero burning DVDs in UDMA mode by downgrading so it might be worth a try.

      I'll second what Taz69 said. I'm using 1.20 2x4all and run it in DMA mode and use Nero 5.5.9.17 with no problems. Using cheap 1X media and have flawless playback.

      yesss!
      thx for the Tip,
      i've just set to PIO the cd recorder device and now works perfectly even with 1.33 2xall

      I am using latest nero AND Instant cd/DVD 6.5 and they are both running great.
      I must say instantcd/dvd 6.5 is better for burning DVDS then nero they seem to play on every DVD player I have tried.
      running winxp pro sp1 with p4 2000 and I have pioneer 104 with latest firmware 1.33 and it burns perfectley at 2X.
      have u disabled windows built in burner and uninstalled INCD.
      if all fails uninstall all burning software then clean registry with somthing like registry healer its the best then install instant cd/dvd and then all your other burning software.

      Aplikation ?

      I use a pioneer a104 (1.10) with gear pro 6.0 rc7 full and i had never problems with the burning and playing in my dvd player thomson dth220.

      I use always TDK or Fuji.

      With datatrack or other cheap media i had verry problems,not the burning on the media but the playing in the dvd player.
      The player abort to play the disk in the last 3/3.

      So i use only this two media types.

      You can read the article in the c´t 25/2002 (DVD Media Test DVD-R/DVD+R).
