Take a look here (I don't take responsibility on how they conduct their tests):

      _http://w*w.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=dvdresults.php3

You must also take a look @ the user comments by clicking "Details" next to every model
I consulted this list before buying my 105 SZ (slot in model), which is surely loud, doesn't support 90 & 99min CDs, but it;s fast enough (on the fly copy with Alcohol scored an average speed of 15.4x) and can be patched with region free firmware.Own it for more than a year and not a single prob has risen.

As seen on previous link, BTC BDV-316B (16X/48X) is the drive to go (fast+silent )and can be RPC-1 patched too (--http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/)

On the other hand you can wait a bit longer (in order prices to fall) so you can buy the Pioneer DVR-A05 (_http://w*w.pioneeraus.com.au/multimedia/products/dvd-rrw/dvr-a05/dvr-a05_prod.htm)

or the Pioneer DVR-A04 if you want to patch it to RPC-1

With these you get one drive instead of two (CD-RW+DVD-ROM)
      Think about it...

Yuna, you want a DVD player not a DVD writer. Get any one of them, they'll all work fine. I have a NEC one myself on my main computer and a pioneer one on another computer and no problems with either of them. All the brands you listed are trustable.

When it comes to DVD writable drives, thats where more questions need to be answered. As far as that goes, I'd go with DVD+RW now, since the media seems to be cheaper now and looks like the major players are sticking with DVD+R.
