T2 headache SOLVED!!! (NTSC)

Just to let anyone who wants to know, T2 ultimate edition, the best way to copy, (that I've found anyway) rip using Smartripper in movie mode, in stream proccessing, select DEMUX to seperate file for video and audio.Use AC3 delay to correct audio and re-encode using REMPEG2.(about 5hours)
RE-MUX in either Sonic Scenarist or Spruce-up.

DON'T use CCE for re-encoding NTSC uses wrong framerate.

Took me a week to find out (lots of re-encoding)

I tried re-encoding and authoring T2 (NTSC) and got the blurry vision action scenes.

I don't belive this is down to CCE encoding at the wrong framerate though.

Try changing your setting in CCE's options for 'Upper Field First' and possibly 'Progressive Frames' as I also had an interlaced PAL DVD (Pink Floyd - The Wall) which produced a similar blurry picture and using different settings has corrected this.

I didn't get time to re-encode T2 with the correct settings as I had borrowed T2 (NTSC) from a friend and he wanted his DVD back before I moved.

I use DVDMaestro for authoring my DVDs and other than the blurry action scenes T2 looks like it would have been okay without any sound-picture sync problems if I had of re-encoded with different settings in CCE.

Taz, there is a problem with NTSC and CCE, I include a quote from a guide I read

Step 5: Pulldown (NTSC only)

If you have an NTSC movie you've most likely encoded it at 23.976 and will find that no authoring program will accept your video stream. This is because the stream has the wrong framerate. Use pulldown.exe on the file as follows:

pulldown input.m2v output.m2v

Pulldown is a command line utility so you can't just double click on it, but you have to go to a command prompt to launch it. Once you've performed this operation you're done and the video file should now be accepted in every authoring program.

I think I have read the same guide an my interpretation was that encoding at 23.976 was done to reduce the file size or improve quality not as a matter of necessity.

The pulldown step would only be required if you chose to record at 23.976

I have already had a go at T2 at 29.970 and everything was in sync. The only problem was the effect of the blurry scenes which I now know how to correct.

I never had a synch problem, only jerky picture.It wasn't blurred, it just jerked

Anyway, how did you sort the problem? Also how do you change the framerate in cce? It could come in usefull for a lot of us since rempeg2 is SLOW!

If the jerkyness was most obvious on action shots it might have been the same thing that I encountered.

All I did was do a test render will one of the trailers and adjusted the settings within CCE.

The setting which had the biggest impact was the 'Upper Field First setting'. As the picture is interlaced I guess getting this setting wrong is the main culprit for jerky pictures.

I don't belive that CCE has any settings for framerate and the dropdown from 29.970 to 23.976 is something you do with DVD2AVI and the Forced Film, Field Operation. I usually use the d2v file created by SmartRipper rather than using DVD2AVI so I always get the same framerate as the original movie.

If you are still having problems I should be able to borrow T2 again and have a go at ripping it.

If so I could let you know what software and what settings I use.

hi Taz69,
how do you create d2v from SmartRipper so that they can be used with CCE .. I usually use rempeg2, but that process takes so long

I use the Movie Rip method, enable Stream Processing to rip the Program Chain which holds the movie and demux any audio channels that I'll need to extra files.

SmartRipper automatically saves a d2v whilst ripping the VOBs.
I then use the VFAPI Conv application to generate an avi which CCE will happily accept.
