The Totally FREE & Easy DVD Backup guide 2005

Hi, everyone. I have learned a bunch here so I thought I'd pay back. Feedback is encouraged on this. It's my first one, basically an updated copy of Laz's version (without burnatonce, since it takes forever to get a key for ProDVD).

Download and install the following free programs. Then, when you see how well this works, send them $10 each to show you care. It’s worth it!

DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0
SEARCH GOOGLE

DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15
again search google

DeepBurner (Free) 1.3.6.168
http://www.deepburner.com/
They have a Pro Version as well but the free version lets you burn an ISO to DVD so you are in business..

All I want is the movie so I can put it in the player in my pimped out ride and only have to worry about a 30 cent DVDR getting trashed by the high people or the sticky fingered kids.

Put the DVD in your drive. Choose the one that gives you the fastest read speed.

Open DVD Decrypter and select the drive where you put the DVD.
You should get a window with everything on the disk selected.
See where it says Destination?
Click the file folder and pick your desired folder. Check out the bottom right corner and make sure you have the space on your hard drive. This one takes about 7GB.

If you just want to copy the movie, like me, click Edit > Select Main Movie Files
Now we’re down to about 4GB. Say YES!
You shouldn’t have to play with the menus or anything but HAVE FUN!

Then click File > Decrypt (or the really kewl DVD to Hard Drive Button)

It took 15 minutes to rip the whole 7GB using the pathetic HP 400C burner reading at about 6.5X (my Liteon 166s ripper died after about 200 rips), your mileage may vary. Go drink a beer, like Laz says. For just the movie, 9 minutes (half-pint).

When it’s done it will play a little tune. How cute.

Click the big Analysis icon

DVD Shrink will do a shrink analysis (if necessary). My movie is less than 4.7GB so I don’t really need it but you might. This took about 8 minutes.

Now click the Compression Settings tab and check out the files. We just want to load and play so we unload everything but the main movie and the kickin 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound audio. So uncheck everything but that. Hello, only 3.8GB. No compression!

Click the Backup! Icon. Ignore that Nero message and browse where you want the .ISO file.

Here’s the key though. I tried this on Region Free with mixed results:

HP DVD Writer 400C—Played fine.
Toshiba DVD Video Player SD-3750—Total lockup. Had to unplug it and plug it back in to get the disc out.
CyberHome CH-DVD300—Played fine
Symphonic WF104—Would not recognize disc
Tohei DVD220S (12VDC unit in the ride)—Played fine.

Changing to Region 1 allowed me to play in all the units without trouble. So set it for your region, what the heck.. I left the other tabs alone. This took about 3 minutes.

Eject your precious original and stick a DVDR or DVDRW in you burner drive.

Now open DeepBurner. It’s the best, forget about the rest. No keys, no people who don’t answer email. Plus, you can create a data DVD and put about 120 albums (ripped to MP3 @128KB/s) on 1 DVD. Try it, you can pick up a DVD player that will play MP3s at WallyWorld for less than $30.

Select Burn ISO Image. Then Next.

See, it does everything for you. All you have to do is browse to your ISO image.
Click the Burn ISO button. (Blank RW media may need erased first).

Now, drink another beer.

Success!!
This took about 13 minutes onto 4X media. Or buy better media and a faster burner and do it in 3 minutes at 16X. (Tryed this with Ritek 16X CD-R on the 400c burning at 8x, took about 6 minutes).

Enjoy!!
