I just want to be a ble to copy it it and store it on my hard drive as a single file to watch on laptop. It is a training video and contains sveral dvd's. I just want to copy them to my laptop and wathc when I need to. Thanks for the help

I read the tutorials but they all point to the same thing being able to write to a cd. I just want to be able to take a dvd and copy the info to the hard drive and veiw it from my comp. What would be the fastest process to do that. I see that it can take hours and hours for 1 dvd. How do I take a DVD and make let say an mpeg, avi or anyting else for that matter, it does not have to be great quality because they are instructional videos, file that will play on my comp.

as bertieg mentioned, the info is in ChickenMan's tutorial.
You don't have to follow the tutorial all the way, just till the SmartRipper part. That's it. Just run SmartRipper & the files will be on your HDD (vob format). Then just get a vob player or even use Flask or some other program to play them. (that would be the easiest way, otherwise go to the other site bertieg mentioned)

To run a DVD off your PC/Laptop you need to copy the WHOLE DVD to your hard drive, not just the movie files. Use SmartRipper and select all files.

Also you must copy these files to a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive. Then both WinDVD and PowerDVD can play it properly.

Naturally your going to need to have a large HD to accomodate the DVD's large VOB files. If you dont have the HD space, I would suggest you convert it to DivX. That will be near DVD quality but 10th the size and will still run on your laptop. A Tutorial is there to explain it all how to do it.
      Cheers,
      CM
