CD-R Swap magic disc problem

I recently purchased Gundam SEED PS2 from Play-Asia.com and found to my horror that it was a compact disk and not a DVD like my other import games. I used the CD-R swap disc and when I loaded it up the screen went red.
I have heard that when this happens there is no choice whatsoever of it working. Can anyone tell me if this is true? If so what can I do short of chipping my PS2 or buying a Japanese PS2?

Sorry but it is true and it has happen to me .red (bad burn) I didnt see any cdloader for that game over at swapmagic .
