I Can't Watch Streaming Videos!

Hi all,

I recently formatted my computer and now when I try to play a streaming video the links won't start. The windows media player toolbar comes on but the play option won't work and it says done at the bottom of the page. I use firefox and internet explorer and the problam occurs with both.

Please help me.

Have you changed firewall, added or replaced a router etc.?
Many streams will use UDP protocol, needing incoming UDP on the appropriate port range enabled.

Look for something like "special application" modes, my router (cable) had one for Quicktime, which also seems to work ok for Realplayer

http://itdl.austincc.edu/streaming/s...outerHowTo.htm Example, port forwarding

Using fixed port forwarding restricts it to the specified PC address.
The use of application rules, where the opened control port from the application triggers the forwarding, enables any client PC to use it, and means the incoming ports are only open when required.

UPNP may be another way, but as I don't understand the capabilities, I prefer methods where I know which levers I'm pulling.
