Incoming blocked: Unable to download surf or recieve mail

Running W2K Sp3 and all of the sudden I can logon to my ISP BUT all I can do is Send e-mail.

Got a feeling that something like ZA Pro 3.0.134 is blocking all incoming traffic.

Tried to Stop and uninstall ZA but still no incoming traffic

Any ideas short from Format and Install W2K with Sp2 only this time?

Any help will be appreciated because my ISP believes it is impossible to send mail and not being able to recieve or surf.

      Browser messages update

Running W2K Sp3 and TCP/IP seems fine because connects to ISP BUT when open IE browser, it seems like it that it resolves the URL because at the bottom of the page it will say "Connecting to -www.whatever.com-" but that's it, the page remains blank although the progress bar shows "progress". After quite a few minutes, it will say that the page is not available.

First time in it will say:
      "Connecting to website IP address
      Website found, Waiting for reply"

On trying other favorites it wil say:
      "Finding site or
      Opening page"

      Any suggestions?

Tried to ping, and although some timeouts it resolves the names to IP addresses.

Hvae you tried uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP? I had a similiar problem and that corrected it for me.

      Thanks Strype

Will give it a go again - making sure it is actually uninstalled and not only disabled

Noticed that TCP/IP protocol installation is bit different now in W2K from the way it used to be with NT4

      I am not alone

About 3 days pre redoing/format I could not LINK etc (blank links lines/IE window) and it was IE in some way. After I checked that UK (?) site on Ghost install instructions! It is GONE as reformat!

If the file was not on THAT site to D/L forget it.

I am on a format and all new. Even here I get 'RUN TIME error', do I want to run DEBUG.????? I click no and continue. That as I clicked TO downloads from main page.

Strange as I have a CLEAN system now.

I have to think it is ISP stuff. I have same Windows files. I have same CHEAP ISP and will not change to full price.

I could not click ANY girlie 'pic' for thunb links at all before I went down to redo sysrem (not fo rthat reason to start). I could not connect to MANY sites but it was not country as I went straight to some.

MIGHT be they are discriminating due to C/O of sites?

I am posting using another computer

Don't thinkmy problem is ISP related because everything 100%, I hope on this one.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your NIC or modem. You might have corrupted drivers. Or use a different NIC or modem. If that doesn't work, I'd just save whatever needed to be saved and do a clean install w/o using SP-3.

That is a google search and as you can see, aol6 is most likely the culprit.

      better now

I had put a NEW moden in here and "after" getting it in the right SLOT when rebuilding it. SMOOTH sailing today but still one MS bug. Personally I do think international stuff occasionaly for you know what reasons, not software for sure.

Making an image of stable working setup

Yes this was only the first signs of system corruption, no matter how long one wants to postpone, it is format and reinstall. Fortunately data on separate partitions.

Once its up and running, going to make an image for easy rebuilding in future. What's the best option there?

Will do a search and see what's recommended.

If you are going to do an image, I definitely recommend installing anything that doesn't need to be updated. *I had an image with F-Secure as the demo with the reasoning that I was going to buy it. I re-imaged my drive and then I couldn't install F-secure serial.* That was one example so I will spare you others. I put stuff that I use daily on there. FTP client, alternative browser, disk defrag, registry cleaners (all 5 of 'em), things of that nature. I can easily keep an image under 700 MB so it fits on a CD without compression. I also put a copy on a partition that is just for images. I have used Drive Image and Ghost and I kinda liked DI better. Hope that helps.

I wish we could have solved that problem because I REALLY don't like a computer to kick my butt. LMAO

      Thanx Strype

Actually from now on I will only upgrade if I am 100% certain the upgrade is fixing something that is definitely broken and giving me problems. I am sure W2K SP3 stuffed me up.

Have a little black book or system log where I make notes on what I did to my system and when which helps a bit with restoring. Haven't done imaging yet but that seems the way to go. At least then one can experiment much more.

Will give DI a try and thanx for the tips

      Hi Pokopiko

When my fonts in MS Office started to behave very strange I realised that's it. Bite the bullet and reformat. Did not have time to experiment any longer trying to restore corrupted drivers or uninstalling ZA.

Can't say for sure what the problem was but I am seriously working now on creating a drive image that can be restored.

      Thanx anyway for tips.
