      Lightbulb eDonkey Tip

      It is rumored that some ISP (damn! like mine) are blacklisting some filesharing app ports to stop piracy and make users think that they cant download anything...and save bandwidth.
      Well, in my case they limited the eDonkey one, I spent many hours trying to understand why it was so slow...emm I found out!
      As I changed the port the speed from 1-2kb/s got back to my old values..
      To change the port on eDonkey you have to enter: port ***x
      where ***x is the new number (whatever u want), in the consolle which is the lower window where the server messages are..

      So, I hope this helps someone

      my former ISP has only blocked the edonkey ports in his provided acces software;
      so this was not a problem, i don't used the software, i always connect directly by RAS;

      RAS = Remote Access Service
      it's a native Windows component; most people use RAS to connect via modem to the internet;
      with directly i mean without additional software only with native Windows componets;

      in German it's called: DFÜ-Verbindung

      Samples of what? How works what? ???
      Did you mean RAS? Take a look in the Windows Helpfile. I'm sure you know how it works.
      Except you are a AOL looser. In Germany you must use the ****ty AOL software if your ISP is AOL.

      So if you asking about eDonkey take a look at the donkey's home: _http://www.edonkey2000.com

      Thanks for the info ..
      I got a edonkey hint as well ...
      Ever tried OverNet ? You can grab it @ _www.overnet.com
      It works far better then eDonkey on my system, and it has the same functionality .. just more easy to use
      and yes, it is able of handlink ed2k links

      Overnet is pretty empty. the Russians are currently trying to switch to the overnet (/http://www.netlab.e2k.ru/), so that there are many interesting russian things flying on overnet, even if they haven't been too successfull in persuading people to switch to overnet. the germans and the US people still rather stick to edonkey. Personally I'll stick to edonkey till a final version of overnet is released, I am not going to install betas on my beautifully configured system.

      about the question of ISPs restricting edonkey downloads: edonkey is so slow that you never get off it anyway. German telekom doesn't block it, and still speed sucks like hell and I never get anything. rare files take up to 4 months! this is so ridiculous, on fasttrack I get all files in less than 5 hours, no matter which size they have.

      if you want to change port, better also change aport:

      port 80
      aport 80
      whether the port is changed also depends on the server you are connected to. some servers are not configured properly, and then edonkey will go back to its default port. I notice that, seeing how my ID sometimes drops back to 20-2000 (I am behind a firewall, so if edonkey can't use port 80, it goes back to port 4661 and ID drops, because only port 80 is open, of course). so don't rely too much on this port changing, or on edonkey in general
      Please don't send me PMs, I only check them once in a month. If you have to say something, say it here

      ya I find overnet sucks. It is slower and doesn't connect as welll as eDonkey. However eMule is looking good and it is OPEN SOURCE =):
