Desktop photos in windows

My friend is having a cyber cafe and one of the main problem is, persons using it keep on posting nude photograps on the desktop. Is there any way of stoping this activity through any software or registry.

You can use tweak ui from microsoft for this, or Xteq X-Setup 6.2 from h**p://xteq.digitaldaze.com/products/xset/. This is a free tool. There are many of these programs out there, most of them are small, and let you manipulate security settings in registry..

Give X-Setup a try, You have many hundreds of settings for manipulating registry...

Depending on which OS your friend are using, Try poledit. Use this util to change the policy for users. You find it with win95-98-2000 and in xp you can make an account that dont have permissions to do different things to the system.
WinME dont have any policy/poledit and MS says that ME dont support it. Here you can use 3 part software. if Your friend dont have the poledit.exe file he can find it on the os cd or download from Microsoft. He starts poledit.exe and loads the setting from registry. Then he can choose what permissions the standard user and other users have.

He can paste this in his browser

Try this little simple registry hack.

Disclaimer : TYT is in no way responsible for individuals fuxxoring thier machines by messing with teh registry! Always back up your registry before altering it.

Run regedit and navigate to...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies

At this point, some of you will have to create a new Key called "System" (without the quotes ), others will have it there. *note : make sure your logged in as "administrator" to perform this*

If you had to create the new Key, right-click and create a new DWORD Value, and name it "NoDispBackgroundPage" ( again, no quotes ) If the System Key was there, look for that value. Once you have it, right click on that value to modify it and set the decimal value to 00000001.

This will effectly remove the background tab from the Display Properties.

To enable the background tab, just change the value back to 0.

TYT, Thanks for your direct acction help, I learned something, but if it so "dangerous" go directly in to the registry, why dont use poledit, its better when you are a noobie like me.
I think it beacause of this we got this forum, beacause we are some many noobies out there, in one way or another, one need to learn behave, another need to learn registry, another need to learn how to burn cd`s.

svgusta, in my years of working with and then working on computers, the registry problems are very minor. The majority of people who know how to access the registry are wise enough to make a backup, be it the simple effort of saving a copy to a DOS accesable area, or making a system restore. Some people prefer the "direct" approach of altering the registry, rather than installing an app that claims to do it for them. Some apps will install various other program settings and such, which might not please the user. Altering the registry, with step-by-step instructions, saves HDD space as well as system resources. Also, a program that can alter the registry can also enable it, which by trial and error, some customers of the cyber cafe might discover. Directly altering the registry removes that possibility. I am glad you learned something today, knowledge is power, you know.

My suggestions are for those who are comfortable with playing with the inner workings of an OS, if you are not ready to dig deeper than the GUI, nobody will hold that against you. Noobies or haxxors, we are all pink in the middle.

Not to change focus on the actual purpose of this thread, which was to help somebody with a problem. My sig, much like others here, is purely ment for humor. I have seen religious statements in sigs that dont seem to offend anybody, so why does a simple noobie comment ( especially from someone with my postcount ) create such controversy?
One thing I value is the ability of free speech. I dont direct my sig at anybody, tis a long-standing part of my interweb identity, and will remain. I have been banned from forums before because of powerwhoring mod's who felt that I was "offensive". All over a simple statement that was actuall only detrimental to myself seeing how I am a noobie to this and the other forums.

My sig is not directed towards anybody in particular. Will I change it? No. If someone gets so uptight about a simple "noobie" refrence, then the forum called "Noobies Corner" must really piss people off.

In a roundabout way, if my sig offends, sorry. In a faceless world of the interweb, letting a simple word like noobie affect anyone is baseless. New technology and advances happen everyday, so actually we are all noobies. Deal with it.

Thanks to all. TYT - Thanks for the info. But in cafe etc what guys do when they see such photos they right click the mouse on the photo in IE the the menu that comes gives an options - "Set as wallpaper". This is the problem. Can we remove that too?

You can't specifically disable a single menu item, (at least as far as I'm aware -- there may be some undocumented way around it), but you can make the menu go away completely. This might be useful for shared machines in a "public" environment, where changes made through the menu, (such as setting the computer's background from a web image), could be confusing to other users.

Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Int ernet Explorer\Restrictions

Set a DWORD value:
NoBrowserContextMenu = 1

You can also do this just for specific users if you wish. In this case, make the change under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

If you export the modified key to a .REG file, (using regedit's export menu option), you can very quickly copy the change to a number of machines. (.REG files open using regedit when double clicked and apply the registry changes they contain. The files themselves are simply text files -- you can verify their contents in notepad or any other editor.)

This has not been tested on my machine ( Winblows XP ), but as long as you make a backup reg file, you will be all right. I apologise about the obvious hi-jack of your thread, and I hope this info helps you with what you need.

-=edit=- Just had a chance to test this on my WinXP SP1 machine. This reg hack completly removes the right-click context menu. Enjoy! -=/edit=-

Applying changes
Windows Configurator ONLY applies options which were really changed and so they are displayed in BLUE. When you check and then uncheck again a check box, the program WILL NOT apply any change.
If you check a check box and then press "Apply" button, the apropriate value is saved into registry. If you uncheck a check box and then press "Apply" button, the appropriate value is deleted from the registry.

Operating system
Windows Configurator was primarily written for Windows 9x/ME, however it also works with Windows NT/2000 but some tweaks might not work. Also for some tweaks to work you need to have Internet Explorer 4 (or higher) installed.

Profiles
You can save and then load your own profile with all the options you checked. You can run Windows Configurator from a diskette and read your profile to quickly apply changes on several computers. Profiles have "WCP" extension.

On this tab you can change 38 system icons like My Computer, Recycle Bin, Control Panel, Desktop, Folder, Diskettes, Printer etc.

Add / Remove
On this tab you can change, delete or uninstall program entries that appear on Add/Remove item.

New menu
On this tab you can choose which items are visible in the 'New' menu which you can access by right clicking on your desktop or in Windows Explorer.

Start menu
On this tab you can hide Start Menu items like 'Favorites', 'Documents' etc., change submenu display delay, disable context menu and edition of Start Menu.

Control Panel
On this tab you can disable Control Panel items and their tabs.

Desktop

On this tab you can disable context menu of Windows Explorer, diable 'File' menu, disable toolbar customization.

About
On this tab you can protect Windows Configurator with password.
