burner to buy

i am looking to buy a burner , i have a compaq computer dont laught,[7000 series]1.3ghz athlon chip ,256 mb,60.0gb hd, 16xdvd,and a cdrw8x philips4801,i have to say it has burned all my backs i use clone and diskjuggler,well to get to the point , can i use a plextor, or lite on in this unit , i was at a computer show and the sales man told me not to buy the plextor it was not to good , usa thank you
