LiteOn DVD 163D into an A7V333 Raid

I'm about to get an Asus A7V333 m/b. It has a Promice Raid controller on board, so will I be able to plug the LiteOn 24102b and LiteOn 163D into these ports?

I know they cant run as Raid, but can they both run in UltraDMA mode or are these ports restricted to Hard Drives only?
      Cheers,
      CM

No bud....on board Promise Raid will not let u run CD's from it...I Have read, but the stand alone Highpoint Raid does ........but make sure u put them on their own cable, cus if u put it on the same as the HD it will slow the HD down ....

ya you can't hook them up to the raid controllers unless you want serious system bogdown.
Besides raid isn't all that it is cracked up to be (unless you use raid 3-5).
Do this (something similar to what Bartman was saying maybe?):
put the DVD-ROM drive on one ide connector & the CDRW drive on the other ide connector (mobo-regular), then stick your HDDs on the raid controller. Should give you best results.
(note* have read that if you put them both as slaves it can give your system a boost while HDDs are set on your raid controller, but I haven't tested that theory out)
      Good luck C.

I boot from My PCI Highpoint Raid, I have all my CDR-W on the MoBo IDE, and me LiteON DVD and a small 8gig HD.

      Primary Master: Plex 40x
      Primary Slave: Plex 24x

      Secondary Master: LiteOn 16x DVD
      Secondary Slave: Fuji 8GIG

Highpoint Raid....(not set up as Raid )

      Channel 1: 40gig Maxtor UDMA 100(Primary Master)
      Channel 2: 60gig Maxtor UDMA 100(Secondary Master)

All The IDE Devices run at UDMA 33 with no problems

Thats my config and all works like a charm. But I can, if I wanted,
put the CDR-W's or DVD on the the Highpoint.....Highpoint say that this can be done without any problems

Yeah the highpoint raid is easier to work with.Promise raid is quite restricted in what you can do with it.

Thanks guys, well finally got the system going (first M/B was faulty ! VCore voltage was stuck on 2.06 v !!!!! and nealy cooked the Athlon !)

Yep the books says ONLY HD's can be connected. My last M/B was an A7V and I had the 2 HD both as Masters on each Promise port and the 2 DVD players and Burner on the main M/b IDE ports, have done the same on the new m/b and all is flying !

      Thanks again guys.
      Cheers,
      CM
