Why you may ask. Well with my 140e wit firmware 1.0n I can copy proteced stuff (safedisk2/2.5) which all work!
Ok mi av to use CDMate(2238) or Clonecd(3341) I still not tested out Clonecd4 as yet. Not only dat de drive I found to be more easy on de media I use wit it...
As for de 140E wit firmware 1.0s I found dat it would av a very hard time coping stuff on media, in short I had to be carefull in brand when buy my blanks.. so my son has dis drive now he's happy wit it..
Yes you can did you save ypour old firmware? If not drop mi line and I'll upload it for you. You may even find dat firmware 1.0p will do you better den (s)

      locating version 1.0s

I'm wondering where I might find 1.0s and if there's any chance of me installing it on a Mac

Wow! Thank you so much! I'll give it a whirl.

Just out of curiosity -- how do people find these firmware updates if Sony won't make them available?

Where makers are short-sighted about releasing official firmware updates, it usually results in pleas for anyone WITH a later version supplied, to rip the firmware.

In some cases, the maker does not supply it, but a company that rebadges them does.

Simple I to still have my Sony 140E AND Sony used to upload their firmware for their CD burners so at the time I just downloaded most of the release for my drive and burn onto disk...also you might find them here or use a search engine like Yahoo.. I still love this drive
