      Lite-On X40 Burning Speed?

Help please. My Lite-On X24 would burn or try to burn any media at X24. My new X40 and software like Nero, EzCd, CDRwin will only show the option to burn at the speed of the CDR media. The X16 FujiFilm (Taiyo Yuden) media burned OK at X24 with the Lite-0n X24, but now with Lite-on X40 only option is to burn at X16. Most claim that this media is OK at X40. What am I doing wrong? (I am using latest ZS0A firmware)
      Thanks, John

      lite-on 32x

have the 32x and the same problem
the old hp - i could jack up the speed and it did what i put in and not was stamped on the cd (10x on a 4x cdr-regularly)
there has to be a way to overcome this 'glitch' it is especially bad with cdrw at 4x...seems like a waste to have a fast burner if you can't utilize all the speed

have cds rated at 16x -- read 24x was ok for them and i can't get there

Guys, you probably know this, but make sure your drives have DMA enabled. Also make sure you have the newest version of software that supports the drive.Ask others what cdr media works best for them.I don't have one so I can't comment further.

I use TDK Reflex Ultra CD-R80's...these are rated to 32x, but on my Plextor 40x I get the the full 40x speed well chuffed.

      Datasafe Media 80mins Silver Premium's do 32x
      AllFormats do 32x
      DiscRite r only 24x

These are the 1's that I use....But the TDK are the best but not the Cheapest

Ok, I found the setting in NERO to do that.
      Recorder-->Choose Recorder-->Options-->Uncheck Smart-Burn.
But, you lose the smartburn test!
This is driving me nuts as I have a huge stock of X16 FujiFilm (Taiyo Yuden) that burn fine at X40 for everybody else.

How is Nero seeing the drive speed? It might be reading the drive wrong - will it burn 24x media at 24x? Sounds to me like you need to update your software.

Keep in mind though, you only actually hit 40x towards the end of the burn, due to how Zone CLV works.

Arrow No problems at all using NTI CD Maker Pro!

I'm using the 40125S with firmware "ZS08" and am having no problems burning to any media with both NTI and Clone. Make sure you use the very latest version of both Clone and NTI though.

I've burned over 300 discs in the last few days on some really crappy unbranded 16X CDR's and every one is perfect and the drive upped the speed in all the right places right on upto 40X too.

      NTI, once tried NEVER forgotten!

BTW all my burns were with Smart Burn enabled too.

      Hope this helps you.

But bertieg, it was LiteOn owners at the start of this thread complaining that they could not do the same. I mus t say I find that very strange as I run the fantastic 24102b as well and both would burn to a beermat if I stuck one in!

      liteon 32x

having no trouble with burning cd-r discs--it will burn a beer mat if you could get in the drive (ok maybe not)..but got some silver tops for free after mail in rebate (32x cmc magnetics) not the best but seem to work well for music discs in the autos.
the vehicle cd's always get all scratched up and i don't feel so bad about trashing a 'cheap disc'

the problem i am having is writing to a cd-rw (yeah i packet write but only till i have enough info to burn a full cd-r)...i think it is a built in speed control on the cd-rw--just my own guess. neither burner i have has copied to and/or formatted a cd-rw very quickly

      Any ideas on this???
thank you for all the help thus far
