Need CD-Rom Recommendations Please

You might look at the Lite-On DVD 163/163D. It is a 16X DVD, 48X CD reader and does well on CDSpeed DAE tests:

I prefer watching DVDs on a stand alone system and big screen TV, so I have no need for a DVD-Rom.

Also, given the DAE performance/quality of today's burners, DAE really isn't that important (should have listed it last in my initial post). Anyway, I just need a fast reader with solid access times and good CD-RW performance. Noise isn't a factor either.

Joripe. I have this drive connected to an Adaptec 19160, but somehow I never managed to copy on the fly with this cd-rom. I get bufferunderruns. I thought it was my burner, and bought a plextor 241240a. I don't get buffer underruns anymore due to the burnproof technology, but still the cd-rum doesn't manage to keep the buffers full. Any ideas?? I'm running Winxp home with 1.5gb pc 133, 1.8 ghz p4.

It definitely has got something to do with Win2K/WinXP. Everything works just fine in win98/winme. But to tell you the truth, I'm reluctant to go back to those two OS's. Poko is right, it has been ectensively been covered in the past, but I never managed to solve my problems. The reason why I brought it up again is that since then we have lots of new people on the forum, and maybe someone would have run in the same problems as I did, and has managed to solve it. Poko, I never doubted your advice, as a matter of fact is the one I trust more then anyone else's. I gave the new aspi drivers a try, and had to reinstall windows to make anything work again. I'll probably wait till they iron out the problems Adaptec has now with their aspi drivers.

Poko, could this be the problem I have been encountering with my Ultraplex 40max? Sounds like the problem I have been having. Haven't upgraded the firmware yet. This information is from the plextor website. If you think so I'll give it a try.

The best of all-it's my opinion- is TEC CD.You might be surprised that it's got only 40 read speed but boulive me, it's the best avalible CD READER. I'm writing my own cd's for about 5 years and i Had LG(after to three years of use about 4 to 10 hours a day) it's only a box in my tower, Philips also good but so popular and couple of my friends aren't happy with it. TEC is the best, becouse after three years it only idled it self on two CD's. It got prity good read corection and it's compatible with the not staandared sized CD's-i mean cd's from more then 80 minutes up tu 99 minutes.Try and you wan't be dissapointed.
