Question LTR 48246S not recognized as a burner

Hello experts,
I have a CD RW Lite-On LTR 48246S installed on a PC running WIn95.
I have upgraded the firmware to SS0E.
I have installed EasyCD creator 3.5c. But EasyCD Creator does not detect
any CD RW on my PC, so I just can't start burning CD with it.
However I tried Nero 6 and other shareware, and
the CD drive was correctly recognized and I was able to burn CDs.
What is the problem with EasyCD creator?
Thanks!
PhilB

you have to update the burning drivers for ECDC, but i don't believe (but do not know) if there is an update package for 3.5c available to support your burner;

anyhow, my recommendation is dumping ECDC and using the freeware programm < BAO - burnatonce > instead;

Windows 95 is not really supported by cygwin, so I doubt if BAO will work properly.
Of course ASPI is needed as well.
Maybe an upgrade to 98SE or better is in order?
EZCD 3.5 not recognizing the burner is great, because if it did you would be tricked starting burning with it... endless rows of coasters.

Some might say it was the last good version, but it's too old for the drive.

Nothing with it?

I checked Nero 6, and that gives 95B (OSR2) as the minimum requirement.
Win95 has slipped out of the requirements of many things, and 98 is beginning that process - the latest releases tend not to support it.

If you're trying to run with 95, all the patches you can, and the latest Internet Explorer that it'll take (5.5sp2?) give you a little better chance - but 95 is definitely relagated to "legacy", an obsolete OS, which no software supplier cares if their software works with or not ... in SOME cases, it may just mean that they no longer test, but then you also come up against old DLLs which lack some functions.

DMA drivers are another issue - Win9x did not have Microsoft IDE DMA driver support until 95B (OSR2) - and the other possible drivers (eg. the old Intel if it's an Intel chipset) were not great for ATAPI - not sure if the last of them were OK.

It would certainly be an achievement to get a modern CD writer working with an old Win95, but the only prize is for bl**dy minded perseverance!

PS. I see Nero worked ok

5$ - Nero Express - should upgrade to 5.5.10.56 and that should support the drive - and if Nero6 will run on that old Windows, then Nero 5.5 certainly should!
Alternatively, trawl the auctions, EBAY etc. - I'm guessing USA, since that's about the most likely - I also tried ebuyer (UK/US), but they don't have the Litenon bundled Nero that they did have - that's one thing to beware - if you buy a real cheap nero, it could be a bundle, and if it's a bundle for the WRONG drive, then you're stuffed.

PS. No personal knowledge of 5dollarsoftware - I first saw them pointed out to someone in the ROXIO forums, who wanted V5 of Easy CD Creator - yes, they have that as well!

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks guys! I stopped trying to use EZCD.
I use a freeware, DeepBurner, and I can burn CD with it on my old OS.
