Toshiba SD-R6112 burn speed

hi all.
i have an acer travelmate 291lmi with a toshiba sd-r6112. win xp

i have been using nero 6 and it is taking almost an hour to burn a 4.5gb dvd-r at 2x (dvd-video mode)

does this sound right to you?

i have done a speed measurement and it is more than capable of writing at the 2,760kb (comes up as 55.5x!) but when i do a simulation/ burn the read speed comes up as closer to 1x. i am using nero 6.0.0.11

any ideas?

thanks

p.s. could it be the media i'm using? will try some others and post again

Same laptop, same burner here... latest firmware.
Do you use the included NTI CD/DVD software, or something else?
Princo 4X whitetop media burn at the Toshiba at 1X, or when I'm lucky at 2X, but that's a rare case.
Even that was good for me as my Sony DRU-500 would not burn even one of them without errors, and I was going to throww them to the bin- at least the 6112 burns them witoout errors.
I had no problemss at all with Sony and Ritek media.

Thumbs up

thanks for the reply.

it's good to know that there is someone with the same laptop on this forum.

i am using nero 6.0.0.11

it seems to be the media i was using that was causing the problem. i have a selection of 7 different dvd-r's and i am currently working through them to test compatibility. i have also found a site that sells a small pack of assorted dvd-r's. hopefully they should be with me in a couple of days. i will post the url at the end.

thanks again for the help.

ging

ok, here's the results of the test so far.

all were burnt with nero 6.0.0.11 in dvd video mode. the following discs were found to write successfully at 2x. (4220mb @ 26.45mins)

Ritek unbranded (1-4x) plain silver top
Verbatim Printable (2x) plain white top
Datawrite Classic (2x) grey top with black text
Datawrite (1-4x) white top with silver text
Datasafe Ritek (4x) white top with black text
Ritek Printable (4x) plain white top

all discs played successfully in the following stand alone players:-

sony dvp-ns700v
sony ps2
sony dav s550
aiwa xd-ax1

i hope to add more discs and test more players soon.

i hope this is of some help. this test is just a rough guide and far from being conclusive.

good luck

Check the disc ID with DvDIdentifier and report back:
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
Memorex doesn't always use quality media...

R6112 Burner

ok I have not yet burned a dvd with this thing.
I tried Memorex(ProDisc) and they keep getting errors
They work fine on my sony dru500

I just tried out some new dvds Optical Quantum(Sony04D1)
tried burning 2 dvds and got 2 coasters

oh but these new ones burn just fine on the dru500

Thought the Optical Quantums would work since they are Sony dvds
but they dont.
This garbage ass drive is tooooo damn picky with dvds.

if it keeps it up it's gonna end up on E-Bay or at the end of a barrel!

btw, i'm using DVDInfo Pro v2.5 to find the media ID

hi hyme,

i agree that these drives are picky. have a look at the list above to see the blanks that i have succesfully burned with.

at the moment i am using the datasafe ritek g04 discs. 1-4x white/silver top with black text. i have used over 25 blanks and havent made 1 coaster yet.

i am using smartripper/dvd2one/nero to make the discs

if you do a search on the datasafes i'm sure you'll find a supplier.

good luck!

Ritek G04 are a sure shot for both the DRU-500 and the 6112... actually my two DVD burners, currently! Zero coasters so far (or to be honest just one, where I slotted too much data, and the last 70-80 MB of them are not readable).
