Question Sony DRU-10A stopped reading own DVD's

Hi,

I've had my Sony DRU-10A for 6 months now and recently it's been doing odd things.

1. When you put in a blank CD or DVD, the drive spins up and then spins down and then up again and then down again and so on and so on until you start burning.

2. Although after burning a DVD it works perfectly on other drives, the DRU-10A is completely unable to read it. Windows keeps asking me to "insert a disk" even though there is one in there. Even older DVD's stop being read. I fiddled around a bit (removed the drivers, added them again, cleared out some stuff in the server management) and managed to get it to read the DVD - but a reboot later and it's back to it's old tricks.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

this looks strongly like a hardware failure; recheck the drive in a friends PC, then go for a warranty replacement;
