Both are good drives, I use the LiteOn and would go for this because the DAE is stunning. So if you do a fair bit of audio then it's about the best for OTF burning.

Oh, and it's a fair bit cheaper than the Tosh as well.

I agree with Roadworker. The Liteon is also a lot faster at ripping dvd's,by a large margin.I think Liteon is the best choice.

The earlier Toshie 8x DVD can rip DVD's a lot faster than the latest Toshies. But DAE is slow on all Toshies (accurate, but slow). Go for the LiteOn, you wont regret it.

I have the Toshiba 1502, I also have the Toshiba 1402 (as a backup) but I have been tempted by the Liteon 163. What is the deal about audio protections and the Liteon? If it really can't copy protected music and the Toshiba can, shouldn't I stick to the Toshiba and isn't the Toshiba then better?

I actually am not thrilled with the Toshiba attempt to block making their drives regionfree. IT seems that they go the extra mile and so have turned me off so I hope the Liteon can do copy protected audio.

Thanks, I guess that makes up my mind for me. I like devices that can play, rip and copy so I won't try the Liteon 163 at this time as the Toshiba drives seem to be able to do it all, even if they do it a little slowly.

Well, that sucks. I haven't encountered any audio protected disks but I thought I was ready for them. So what can be used to copy them? I have some ripping programs that I thought could do it; like EAC, and Feurio and Audiograbber. Of course, like I said I haven't encountered one yet.
