cordless optical mice....

I purchased the Cordless MouseMan Optical Mouse from Logitech about three weeks ago. It worked wonderfully. But I just returned it. My only problem with it was that the batteries are already dead. Now, granted that I do use my computer a lot, I know that the batteries are supposed to last more than three weeks. In fact, the box said that it would last months on the batteries included. I really do not want to replace my batteries every three weeks. But, like I said, I really liked that mouse.... my only problem was with the batteries. So, I guess my question is are there are any better cordless optical mice out there?

I had one of these too and as you returned it within 3 weeks.
It wasn't the batteries so much for me, it was the movement lag.

Sadly, this is reviewed as the best wireless mouse out there currently. The M$ wireless IntelliMouse Explorer is not nearly as good (far less accurate), eats batteries even more, and is $15 USD more expensive.

Personally, I think the technology is still a year or two off. Wireless is getting better every day, but its still in its infancy.

However, if you can put up with the chord, the Logitech Dual Optical is reviewed as one of the best (if not the best) mice on the market right now. Its accurrate (1600dpi), is great on games, feels good in the hand, and is good on the wallet ($39 USD).

I've never had a better mouse! Give it a try.

ya I have to agree with dxkim.

I had the cordless mouseman also & I just got annoyed with having to change my batteries every 2-3 weeks. Luckily I am getting a new system & already baught my replacement mouse
"Dual Optical". Same shape (slightly small for my hands though) & size but tracking is superb. No more lag.

I would avoid the cordless mice for now. Batteries just don't last long enough & they are laggy.
You could also try the Intellimouse Explorer v3. It is about as good as the logitech dual optical (both corded), only perhaps not as accurate (less dpi), but it is bigger & fits my hand better. They just don't have it available where I am now but you might have better luck.

I understand all of that, but I really enjoy having a wireless mouse. That was the biggest reason why I purchased it to begin with. My computer is just a little too far away for a mouse with a cord to work well for me. I suppose I could try to get an extension usb cable or something, but it was really nice having a mouse without a cord. Thanks for your suggestions. I think I might try picking up that Logitech Duel Optical. I have heard nothing but good things about it. Thanks again.

nawlej, don't get me wrong. The Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical is still one of the best (if not the best) cordless mice out there. I believe that battery problem is workable though.

The main problem (as I see it) with the batteries is that the mouse is always on. Logitech claims that it uses low power mode when not in use, but it still uses power. NiCad batteries will not work as they put out less juice per cell that Alkaline (1.25v compared to 1.5v). The new NmH rechargeables might be an option as they come in AA size now. I have seen a few reviewers that pulled out the batteries when it is not in use. Although this takes a few extra seconds, your batteries should last a great deal more time regardless of how long you are on the computer (you have to sleep right).

BTW, I have my Logitech Dual Optical on a 4 foot USB hub and have no problems at all.

I was actually checking into those now Ni-MH batteries, and they seem to be pretty cool. And that would save on the cost and all, but I would still have to change them every three weeks. I guess wireless technology still needs to make a couple advancements before I will be satisfied. Maybe I am just too picky.

Now that you do mention it, I could use a USB hub, as I only have one port open at the moment. I had the MouseMan on my PS/2 port before, just so that I did not have to use my other USB. So $40 bucks, eh? I guess thats a pretty good price. I do have this gift card from the store I returned my wireless mouse at, since they wouldn't give me a frickin refund. But, we'll see...... thanks again y'all...

hopefully you found something that works for you, but I do want to say one more thing on this subject.
Make sure you plug your mouse into the USB port. It will work much better thru the USB port than with the PS/2 connector.

Why would it work better on the USB than it would with the PS/2? What advantage does that offer?

Bandwidth! USB's connection can deal with a great deal information than ps2 and can do it at a greater speed.

In fact, the Logitech Dual Optical will not get its dpi of 1600 on the ps2 port. It will only get it on the USB port.
