      Plextor CDR/RW 8/2/20 Upgrade

      I have a plextor 8/2/20 writer
It has version 1.0.1 on it
Question do I upgrade to latest version or is it risky
I rember reading somewhere that it takes away some protection writing capability safedisc may be I think???
So is it OK to upgrade or the old story
If it an't broke don't fix it
Or am I missing out on some new features???? if so what??

Or if this is not the place to ask does someone know where to go a link to find GOD for the answer
      Most humbily

Hi bud.The best bet is to go to the Plextor web site and see what the new revisions add to your writer. They only improve it's capabilities.

I was asked a similar question about the 820.Two friends had the same writer. One of them was better at copy protections. We narrowed it down to firmware. The better writer had newer firmware. Both were equally good when the one person upgraded. It is a personal choice here. Just make sure there is no disc in the writer if you do upgrade. You have to let the upgrade finish without interruption.Follow the instructions carefully.

      Yes
I remember after a scotch and more thinking
It was something to do with a firmware update not allowing the burner to copy safedisc
The forum did show other's trying to get hold of old firmware version's to get a backward driver
SO SITTING ON THE FENCE TILL MORE INFO COME'S FORTH
      THANKS FOR THAT

      Found this at their site

      just a little warning

I know this may not apply to your drive (but Whether all plextor drives use the same firmware - i dont know - i didn't think it did), i thought this would bring some insight into this - but what im trying to say is . . . before you upgrade firmware try to get confirmation on whether the new firmware allows you to copy SD2 before you upgrade. . . cos . . .

There was a firmware revision 1.05 for plextor 12/10/32 (*32 read i think) that didnt allow the drive to make perfect SD2 copies. But instead only allowed copies to be run off the plextor drive itself and no other. It was impossible to downgrade back to 1.04. - I know this because I was there when my friend upgraded his firmware to 1.05 - a really bad move

1.05 firmware users with 12/10/32 require AWS to copy SD2 to run on other drives.
