Unless you need nero specifically, I would suggest you try NTI CD Maker 2000 Pro.
It's very easy to use, reliable and unless you want some of nero's more advanced features I would consider it to be the superior choice. I had a quick look on the web site and I believe the hp 16 series is supported. w*w.nitus.com.
The recent versions of nero have been a bugfest, I am using 5.5.3.5.
Get NTI at w*w.cdrsoft.cc. Its well worth it.
By the way the HP software is crap.
