Xp installation

I want to format my HD... now I have a primary partition with ME and a logic with win2K:
if I want to install winXP I need to do it in primary or I can make in logic? There are some pb if I don't nistall winME (I use it for emergency...)?

if I have understand I must created another primary partition if I want to install WinXP and ME in the same HD, right?
Win Xp is based on 2K technology, right? If this is true, there isn't a way to do it works on a logic partition? I'd like to do it only because if I install it on a primary one I can see it if I use the other OS....
