IN DESPERATE NEED!:HOW DO I BACKUP FINAL FANTASY VIII(8) using CDR

      I have a major problem

I want to copy FFVIII using a CDR. I am already aware that it is protected with Libcrypt, but is there a way to get pass this?
I have made several attempts using the following software:
      -CloneCD 4
      -Nero 6 (using CDRW)
      -GameJack4
      -alcohol 120%(using CDRW)

Is it actually possible to copy this game, or am i just wasting time. I also discovered that my PS2(mod chipped) cannot play CDRW, only CDRs.

With the unsuccessful copies i have already made the following happens when i load it into my PS2:
I put in the disc, then the Playstation Logo comes up. After that the screen goes blank and nothing happens. This was a recurring thing that happened on all my CDR unsuccessful copies.

I heard that if i make a copy of an exsisting unsuccessful copy, it may work.
In addition, when using Alcohol 120%, i used the proper settinngs etc....but when it displayed the log, it said that 'failed to read subchannel data' something like that.

      WHAT DO I DO????
Shall i try using Alchol 120% again but with CDRs(will it work??)
Or Shall i use Nero 6? but with CDRs(will it work??)
Or do i make another backup copy of an exsisting unsuccessful copy??

PLEASE REPLY ASAP_URGENT (Ive wasted 6 CDRs already!!)

P.S My version of Final Fantasy VIII is PAL (purchased in Britain) and my PS2 does have a working MOD CHIP.

What reader/burner combo do you use?
I know that older Philips and Acer models had difficulties with subchannel data, but 99% of todays readers and burners have no problems with it...
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.....

      ok,
      1. what modchip do you have
      2. what boot method are you using
      3. have you made any other backups to the same CD-R based media that have booted/loaded successfully ?
      4. are you using the correct settings for PSX Libcrypt ? (id not then unzip the attached into your "C:\Program Files\Elaborate Bytes\CloneCD\Profiles\" (or wherever it is) folder and use those settings)
      5. what CD writer are you using ? - does it support writing RAW DAO+96 ?
      6. what read/write speeds are you using ?

      In response to copyingFFVIII

I went to psx_pauls website and and followed the tutorials. I used the CLoneCD 4, as i was going to use that to burn my game.
I downloaded the profile as instructed and followed the instructions.

      IT WORKED!!!!!!-thanks to u psx_paul

HOWEVER, another problem has come up. When i load FFVIII as usual everything works fine. However i discovered i can only 'continue' with an already saved file and CANNOT start a 'new' game. This is so FRUSTRATING!!!WHen i do click the 'new'game, the screen goes blank and my PS2 just makes these strane whirring sounds.

In addition to that, i noticed that after i insert the disc and the playstation symbol comes up, it takes longer for the game logo screen thing to load up each time i play the game. Is this a progresive thing that will eventually allow me from playing the game???HOW CAN I FIX IT!!!

I also noticed, during the writing process of using CLONECD 4, it came up with this message saying it didnt copy successful or something, and there was something about this 'medium' error thingy????????What is this????
But i managed to use this disc on my PS2 and it actually runs. Could this be a cause as to why i cannot start a new game, but only continue with an exsisting file and why it takes longer to load each time i play. Is it because it did not write properly???

      PLEASE ANSWER MY QUERRY ASAP.....THANKS

p.s the media is use is 'imation CD-R 700MB/80MIN
p.p.s my writer and reader has these capabilities (copied from CLONECD4)

Alcohol 120%-->options-->emulation:deselect "ignore media type" ,and make shure that CloneCd's "hide cdr media" is deselected too, than close CloneCd's virtual drive in the system tray before you make an image and burn.....

Also,Imation is not so good if they are made by CMC Magnetics....

Yep, they're pretty dreadful. Try either Mitsui gold (if you can find any) or Verbatim data life plus (not plain Verbatim data life).
