      Your recommendations psxpaul

PsxPaul, what modchip do you recommend for PS2? I keep reading about various ones, but I'm not sure which is best, so I'm going to the difinitive authority. ) I'm in the U.S. and I already have a standalone DVD player so a mod chip allowing me to play DVD movies isn't necessary. My PS2 is version 5. Thanks for your suggestions!

Oh yeah, I play online so I guess I will need a chip that can be turned off. Thanks again!

    3. I ain't psx_paul but i think he will agree with me that messiah 2 pro is the best chip around. You can activate sleep mode by holding the reset button for 5 seconds. if you by the chip and DIY then make sure you dont damage the vias or your ps2 will be filet...

      The vias?

What do you think about DMS version 3? Or Magic 3.1?

      Thanks.

Oh yeah, sorry about your apt. getting broken into. (I had a chance to read that post before it was edited)

The via is a small hole thing on your ps2 motherboard that u have to solder a point from your chip. If you use a hot solder there is a high chance you will melt it so use a small solder and wire. DMS-Uses swap method thus playing a original online game still wont work,Magic-same as DMS. Messiah 2- The king of mod chips, just insert the backup as if it was a original and for online games turn the ps2 off using the back main power switch and turn it back on now the reset button light should be colured red. hold the reset button for 5 seconds.

As i live in new zealand i don't know where u can get a modchip in the us but im sure psx_paul will know.Anyway i hope this is helpful for you.

No it doesn't. DMS does not require the swap method. It is by far one of the best chips. If anything it is better than the Messiah because it has some features that the messiah doesn't such as Fast Boot mode, .Dev mode, and Reality Media Player.

      It's a good chip.

BTW- This is the latest DMS version that's out today. DMS3 v2.0

Thanks for the reply guys. So the Messiah 2 pro can pass DNAS authentication? Can the DMS3?

You can "disable" the chip in order to play original games online, however backup copies of your originals cannot be played online (any chip) due to the DNAS authentication.

You can play backup copies of orignals like SOCOM. You just can't play backup copies of orignals that were made before December 30, 2k2. YOu can play 2k3 games online becuz they were made during the year of 2002.
