silver ps2 modchipping

i have just bought a silver ps2 due to the fact that my old ps2 has become unreliable. My bro doesnt want to get it mod chipped because he blames that for the breakage of the last one. So i was looking at those external modchipps. Are they good and will they work?

I doubt it was due to the modchip that the ps2 actually broke. Which area do you live in? Do you still have ur ps2? The external ones are not good. If installation goes well then the modchip has nothing to do with it because it turns off once the games boots. Some external chips may not work with your version. They only work from v1-v6.

i live in cheshire (england) he has agreed to get it chipped but we dont want to swap discs. Which chip do u recomend.

It all depends on what version your ps2 is. Just check out the version chart I made. It is a sticky in the backup forum. If you say you just bought your ps2 then it's probably a v9. But double check that.

Assuming that it is a v9, the choices you have are a DMS3 or a Messiah 2 Pro v1.33b modchip. Those ones I know for sure work on a v9, I have heard these ones do too. DUO chip, mars chip, and the Apple V chip.
