I would recommend you a Yamaha SW-1000XG AudoFactory (which I got and is PERFECT for Cubase/Cakewalk/Logic Audio etc), or an RME DIGI/HammerFall, KORG 1212 IO, or a Terratec EWS-88MT, but since you say there are not much money the solution is ONE: A TERRATEC soundcard. A good Terratec soundcard is DMX XFire 1024 which costs less than 80 Euros and is the best value for money for a high quality soundcard. Forget SoundBlaster Cards as they are NOTHING compared to cards that are made for Audio and not for Gaming... Soundblasters are really good for gaming and simple audio work, but this doesn't mean you cannot use a soundblaster for cakewalk or Cubase... Anyway the choice is yours, but mind that Audio Quality means professional solutions and the only manufactures that can assure this are Yamaha, Terratec, RME, KORG, Event and not Creative...

The KXproject driver - w*w.kxproject.com (redirect) is geared to MUSICAL use of the EMU10k chipset based cards,
      including the SOUNDBLASTER LIVE.

Lower delay, and an option to switch front/back outputs (the rear D-A converters are better!) are among the features.

Cakewalk is mentioned a few times on that site, so if funds don't stretch to a "professional" Soundcard, go for a SB LIVE with the KX drivers.

Well if money was not an issue here I would say go for de Terra Tec DMX 6Fire 24/96.....w*w.terratec.net
Which are 100% audiocard, unlike Creative SB Live range which are(mulitmedia audiocards)
      Tanx You!

      terratec rulez ...

btw. DMX fire 1024 has got an optical digital output/input !!
SB cards have only electric digital ... that´s **** ..cause u need a converter for recording to other devices like a Mini Disc Player ....

As Rastabt, el_presidente and me said, TERRATEC is the best solution value for money Audio Card. If there is more money, then one of the cards I mentioned is highly recommended. For the time being I have a Yamaha SW-1000XG (h**p://w*w.xgfactory.com) and a Terratec DMX XFire 1024 soundcard in the same machine without any problems cause. The other machine has a Yamaha WF-192XG soundcard and a C-Media 6 chanel multimedia card. Soundblasters are total sh*t!!! A really good cheap choice is the Terratec 512i or even the cheaper 128i which are much much better than the ugly stupid soundblasters!

      Please NO!

      I'm "upgrading" my 128 to a LIVE!

My PCI128 has the known problem, of not recording to peak level (the ES1373 version)
The old ES1370 (or was it 1371) were a LOT - Creative took the original ENSONIQ AudioPCI (and I think it became the PCI64V) and then progressively cheapened it.

The 128 full retail MIGHT still be the "good" one, but the OEM's are most definitely not.

And if you replace the Live drivers with KX for music, then the £23 Live value OEM I got from a show is a cheap deal for midi composing!

Still looking for the absolute best drivers - I guess I'll cros fingers and try the Compaq ones.

      @POKO
      agree with cdorders .... I don´t think that they r overpriced ...
btw. I wouldn´t buy one of the cards u mentioned...cause I have never seen them anywhere ...

I can´t judge if the cards u mentioned r better or worse than Terratec ..fact is ..nobody I know owns such a card..and no reseller I know sells these ...

The ony better cards from Terratec are the Yamaha SW-1000XG, KORG 1212 IO, some RME and Some Roland ones, but they are too overpriced... Believe me, my Yamaha costs about 640 Euros... Who could pay so much since he can have a Terratec which offers almost the same at half of the money???

      Smile Well.....

I'll be the first to admit i know nothing about much at all - but names i see constantly come up with regards to a 'budget' audio card solution are the Echo Mia and Midiman Audiophile 2496.
      Peace

No buddy, for the time being, the best value for money is definately Terratec. Believe me, you can count on Terratec for this.
