Nero has filters which can help clean up "dirty" recordings.

Its abit trial and error though.

      clean up

cleaning up is not my thing--but check the advance audio section there are several threads that recommend various clean up software and different ways to do such things

from reading them these guys seem to really know what they are doing--that is my opinion beacuse i have not had to mess with cleaning anything up yet

that would be the place to start

I use PristineSounds for all of my analog recordings. I have yet to find anything better. It's pretty expensive, but worth it.

I'd stay away from any of the filters that come with some CD-R apps such as EasyCD Creator. They perform poorly compared to software that's made specifically for sound restoration.

This page has some good tips for connecting a tape deck, or whatever else to your sound card, and recording the audio.

      Grey,

Where would I “Look” to find an “obtainable” copy of the famous Pristine Sounds?

      Question To Grey????

I use PristineSounds for all of my analog recordings. I have yet to find anything better. It's pretty expensive (unless you know where to look ), but worth it....You are refering to it like its the best audio-cleaning plugin today....Yes,it is really good, but cant be compared to some software like waves restoration bundle(and few more from that category).....Yes,it is much more money(but you can find it for free-same as pristine sounds).....For guy who started the thread-check advanced audio section and look for manual posted by me....(very good explained stuff)...

No. I said, "I have yet to find anything better."

As for what is the best, it all a matter of personal preference. PristineSounds was just a suggestion.
