to getting the laser re-calibrated, i wouldn't try this myself; a Marantz is worth to get profi service; IMHO they using not only a CD and a screwdriver, they need an oscilloscope too; Greetings from Duracell

This is an "expensive", no- nosnsence standalone CD player, and I would agree that your best choice if you are under warranty is sending it for regular maintenance...
I never owned a Marantz player, but IMHO they are both very good and real workhorses.

I had a almost same problem with my first standalone cd-player(pioneer)..
Additionally it was passing by songs too.. I spend 2 day to fix it The """screw"""you are talking about is a potenciometar and youll havew a hard time to adjust it,couse i remember after the fix i still had a 2 cds which were not recognized completely.. So go to service and let the guys do the work
