IMHO, the best mp3 solution is EAC and Lame.

EAC is Exact Audio Copy and is considered the
highest quality ripper out there. Its a little complicated
at first, but you soon get the hang of it.

      URL is: h**p://w*w.exactaudiocopy.de/

Lame is considered the best mp3 encoder out there.
The best quality vs size is CBR 190kbps or -r3mix VBR with
      the v3.89beta

      URL is: h**p://home.pi.be/~mk442837/

Best of all, they are both FREE. Actuallly EAC is postcardware
(just send a postcard to its creator, Andre Wiethoff).

    3. My xp doesn't like any of those programs.

      Question

Barney Killer. What problem are you having with these
      (EAC+Lame) prog's? Mabey I can help.

EAC is a little complicated at first, but once you
understand its easy. Its considered the best
ripper (so good in fact that CloneCD will be
emulating it soon). Plus, no cracks or keygens
      to get in the way.

If you still want to try, PM me and I will also give you
some websites with detailed instructions on how to use.

      EAC

EAC is good, but it's sooooo damn slow.

und bin bisher sehr gut damit gefahren.

Sugeknight the reason that EAC is slow is its greatest strength.
EAC checks the audio data its extracting many times to confirm that its data is good. If it runs into a CD sector that your CD device is having a hard time reading, EAC slows it down and reads it several times to correct any problems.

Almost all other ripping proggies our there just rip as fast as they can without checking the integrity of the extracted data. Most of these proggies don't even tell you if the rip was 100% successful.

Have you ever picked up a file on Napster, Morpheus, etc only to find "POP, TICK" or other strange sounds in the mp3. How about a bootleg or fan CDR that you traded with an internet "friend" that has this same problem. This is mostly caused by undetected rip errors.

EAC will do its best to correct such problems by rereading the data over and over until it gets it right. And if it can't (which is rare), it lets you know.

EAC is like a fine wine. Good things take time!

CDparanoia where do you find this one pokopiko?

I have a rare cd that I want to backup to CDR, but 2 big scratches prevent EAC and Feurio from extracting.

      Might be worth a try.

EAC can run very slowly if you have it configured a particular way, example, paranoid mode, or have caching switched on with certain drives (drive caches audio data ticked..)

It usually is a configuration problem..
